EMU boots are comfy, cosy and warm. They let your skin breath even during summer. But as every shoes, from time to time, they also need cleaning.
Cleaning shoes of the ugg type, including EMU, is neither hard nor time consuming. Several minutes will actually be enough to restore their good appearance.

I suggest using original conditioners, shampoos and sponges signed by the producer. They have an optimum composition and properties. Not always, however, is it possible, therefore I will describe some alternative solutions.

First step -Brush away dirt

Use a soft-bristled brush and brush away loose dirt and debris. You can use either the brush from EMU cleaning kit or other meant for suede.

Stubborn spots are to be removed with special eraser. I caution against unnecessary rubbing. It's enough to gently wipe the stubborn stain. Eraser is available from EMU retailers. You can also use an eraser meant for suede.

Salt stains cause most problems. They could be removed with sponge or cloth dipped into soapy mixture or, if stains are tough, vinegar mixture. Some guides advice using pure vinegar. It should do, yet I prefer vinegar and water mixture (1:1 proportion), only then am I not worried about leather being harmed by the vinegar.

Next step - main cleaning

Prepare two basins, one with lukewarm water and the second one with water and a bit of shampoo for washing EMU shoes. Using lukewarm water and a piece of cloth, wipe shoes wet. Do not drench them. Next, with the same piece of cloth, wipe shoes with water with shampoo (do not put the shampoo directly on the shoes). At the end, again wipe them with piece of cloth rinsed out in water.

Here's a short tutorial from youtube:

Instead of EMU shampoo, you can also try similar products for suede. However, for best results use the official Emu boots caring kit from Emu Australia

Step three - drying.

Stuff up your boots with crumpled newspapers to help shape them while they dry.

Drying can take up to 16 hours. leave the boots to dry in a well ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. Otherwise this can cause the colour of the boot bleach while it's drying. Mind suede shoes on the shop windows - their colour is often different due to being exposed to the sunlight. Do not try to blow them dry or put near the electric stove. It may cause your boots change their shape. Remember that leather is "working" and it's not resistible to the outside conditions.

Step four - maintenance.

Very important, yet often neglected step. Apply conditioner to the dried boots. EMU care kit is best, however you can also use conditioners meant for suede.
