A-league Hollywood actresses didn't let us down this year. All matched their dresses carefully to the occasion, and presented themselves fantastically on the red carpet. However, at times this care caused boredom.

Hence the list of actresses who didn't play it safe.

There were at least three actresses who stand out from the crowds. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress, Helena Bonham Carter (in Colleen Atwood gown) raised eyebrow with her dress (and especially with what she wore underneath it), hairstyle and make-up:

I was positively surprised by Cate Blanchett. Even though, she is usually choosing unique cuts, she doesn't always succeed. She sometimes goes beyond the invisible border between "original" and "awkward". This time, however, she remained on the right side. She left us speechless dressed in Givenchy gown perfectly fitted to her and to her personality.

Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior Couture was the only person who could look so beautiful in it...
