Is Christian Siriano the new Karl Lagerfeld...or is he just an unexperienced twenty-few-years old follower of his older fellow designers...?
A fashion show isn't just a prosaic way for clothing sale. It doesn't resemble a fair, rather a premiere of a long awaited film. The names of the world class actors are inviting us to come and during the New York Fashion Week - surnames of world class designers.
However in 2008 Christian Siriano , the winner of the fourth edition of the reality show Project Runway , has joined this group. Some people say, that this competition is a perfect way to find a new Karl Lagerfeld in this big crowd of designers. The others say you just have to be born as Karl Lagerfeld and the crowd will simply step aside. After watching the report from the New York Fashion Week Christian Siriano Spring 2011 i became closer to share the second opinion.
Apparently the inspiration for this show were the rich cultures of the African countries, China and India, so that we could observe an increased use of the snake leather skin imitations, in the interesting shades of blue and red, in the work of the designers. In this regard the best creations were the red trousers with the widened trouser legs ( see film below, 1:24) and the red shorts.
There was no shortage on the elegant white colour, softened with a bold belt and the cocquettish cocktail dressess with waving flounces, covered with silver sequins and asymmetric ruffles.
We could see the come back of the trench coats and the safari jackets. At the end, in the atmosphere of admiration spectators were marvelling the large ball gown made from hundreds, if not thousands, tulle flounces, which was very similar to the hit from the autumn collection (on the photograph below, on the cover of the Vegas magazine). The beautiful "meringue" is slowly becoming the identification mark of Siriano.
Accesorries were notable and they played the title role in this show. Remarkable were the beutiful necklaces and the wide leather belts, not to mention the high-platform sandals or the Avant-garde, cored heels. Our favourite model:
You can't criticize the collection from Siriano - everything presented there was beautiful, well-thought-of, high polished and de facto - an already tested way to succes. Siriano has designed a terrific collecton of the covers from the last few years, nothing new ufortunatelly.
