I do believe that corsets used to symbolise women's subjection, once. It deformed the chest by squeezing ribs, thus making breathing difficult, and even damaging the health irreversibly. A century ago women wanted to free themselves from it... Or maybe I missed something?

Fortunately, thanks to years of trying, women get accustomed to corset and it got adapted to the modern reality. Nowadays, it's one of the sexiest items from among lingerie, plus it moulds the silhouette.
